A Journey without a Destination
When you think : "Why me?" next time, do this. Get anyone you can get hold off [preferably a stranger] and ask them "Are you happy? Is your life difficult?"
Now, tell them about your life and wait till they bring you up to speed with all you have and wonder why you are acting so strange.
Everyone is fighting a tough battle. Including you. Life is not going to be easy. You can obviously make it more difficult for yourself.
P.S. This is obviously written for people like us. I don't expect this to hold true for people with genuine grouses.
And that can mean never. But hopefully it means today.
Today, I am breaking an old habit to form a new one.
If you have resolutions [I know I do], its never too late to start. It might not be early but it is definitely not late.
I have procastinated joining a gym for the longest time ever. And, I haven't read as fast as I would have liked. These two are only among the many things I have put off.
Sometimes the time is just not right. You are not motivated enough. You are not convinced of the effort - pay off ratio. Whenever you are motivated or aware for whatever reason you start.
And today I am starting two things:
Does that look like something really simple to do? It is not. Only today, so many times have I opened a new tab in my browser to type the URLs of these websites. I have resisted them today. I will make sure that the habit that has been formed slowly over a period of time (to check every 15 mts.) turns the other way (check only twice a day).
Today was also an auspicious day. It is Lohri, the harvest festival in North of India. Rice is harvested today to reach millions around the world.
When was the last time you broke a habit to form a new habit.
Recently I read the blog post by GigaOm, recounting his 10 years as a blogger. He has written a blog post every single day (sometimes three posts a day, weekends included) for more than 10 years. I reflected back on my own Agile blog. Even during my most productive period, I blogged only thrice a week. Now, this may explain why I haven't become a GigaOm but it also raises another question. Maybe, I "want" to blog but not "want it bad enough". It is an uncomfortable thought. And, as the many variations of this tweet suggest: "If you really want it, you make time for it. Else, you make an excuse." Unfortunately, I do not have a recipe or a cookbook to make me "want to blog really badly". I can only hope to surround myself with blog posts such as above and create a vision where there is a halo of a successful blogger around me to possibly create some action. Let's see :)
